Crossing my fingers for @TrueBloodHBO. #shortyawards

Back in January, @LafayetteTB and I put in the hard push for everyone and their mothers to nominate @TrueBloodHBO for a Shorty Award in the entertainment category.

The Shorty Awards honor the Best Producers of short, real-time content on Twitter. It’s about identifying and celebrating the people that help make your experience on Twitter fun and entertaining everyday. Since what brought many of our friends and followers to Twitter was our love of the show True Blood and its characters, it seemed like a fitting way to say thank you.

Tonight I’m going to make my way from Bon Temps to the Big Apple to cheer on @TrueBloodHBO.  They’re up against some pretty big competition — in first place, you’ve got the official Mythbusters crew (@Mythbusters) and in second, you’ve got a person tweeting as the character Richard Castle (@WriteRCastle).

Both have a lead over @TrueBloodHBO in the popular vote.

That said, I still have faith that @TrueBloodHBO has a fighting chance to win tonight.  Here’s why.  The Shorty Awards isn’t a popularity contest.  Yes, the number of popular votes does count toward the final result.  However, a couple of other factors come to play — there is a panel of judges called the Real Time Academy consisting of everyone from social media experts to celebrities like Alyssa Milano on Twitter who review all finalists and make their own selections. Secondly, each of the finalists is asked to answer a Shorty Interview. The quality of their answers are read by the Real Time Academy and do count toward the final result.  You can read @TrueBloodHBO’s answers to the Shorty interview here.

Lastly, and maybe it’s because I’m biased, I do believe that the True Blood community of friends and fans is one of the tightest out there.  By my count, there are over 250 characters that make up the world of Bon Temps on Twitter, and  thousands of fans that follow @TrueBloodHBO, @HBO, and all of the crazy people like me that tweet as characters.  And because they’ve managed to help foster that community, they should win.

If you’re interested in watching the Shorty Award action unfold, you can watch the Shorty Awards via Livestream tonight at 7:30pm EST here. I’ll be on the ground at the awards, tweeting away, hoping to get a pic of William Shatner.  Keep your fingers crossed.

Have what it takes to be @MissVonetta?

Yesterday, I tweeted this post for Bon Temps biggest busybody, @MissVonetta.

We’re still on the hunt.  If you think you have what it takes to be Vonetta, here are a couple of things to know about @MissVonetta and a few questions from me.

Vonetta appears in only one episode. True Blood Season 2, Episode 12.  While we can be sure she knows everyone in town, she might not know that Hoyt is dating a vampire.  She might have heard about Fangtasia, but she doesn’t know Eric or Pam, and you can be pretty sure that like everyone else in town, she has NO idea that Lafayette was in the Fangtasia basement for a few weeks.  Vonetta would be a little playful and flirty with Sam.  BUT if you’re thinking that this is going to be an opportunity for her to wear Sam like scrunchie, think again.  Knowing Sam’s character, he’d politely give her the brush off.  After all, he’s not the type of guy that would lead a woman on for more $$$.

Vonetta is someone who can take the smallest detail and turn it into a whopper of a story.

So without further ado, here are my questions:

    1) I’ve told you my thoughts on Vonetta, but you’re the one who’s going to have to play her. How would you bring her to life?
    2) What would Vonetta have in her purse?
    3) Using 140 characters only, tell me in Vonetta’s words what happened:

    • You’re at the Super-Sav-A-Bunch. You see Arlene Fowler pick up a home pregnancy test.
    • You’re at the Grabbit Kwik. You see Sookie go to the fridge to pick up a 4-pack of Tru:Blood. She pulls out the 4-pack, puts it back into the fridge and leaves.
    • You’re at Merlotte’s. You pass by the kitchen and see Lafayette nervously hang up his cellphone and slump down to the kitchen floor.

If you want to be considered for the role of @MissVonetta, please email your responses to the three questions to me at sookieinbontemps@gmail.com.  Deadline is Friday, January 29 at 5pm CST.

ISO the biggest busybody in Bon Temps.

Are you the biggest busybody in Bon Temps?

Do you have a knack for observing the everyday and turning it into a big story that’ll have all the tongues in town wagging?

If so, you just might be @MissVonetta. Remember her? She was one of the women gossiping at Merlotte’s about space aliens (S2, E12). She wants to wear Sam like a scrunchie? Ring any bells?

Who you are — observant, witty, and a little obnoxious.  People listen to you because your tall tales are entertaining — nevermind that most of your stories only contain a kernel of truth.

If you’re interested in picking up the part, read through her last round of tweets, then email me at sookieinbontemps@gmail.com or DM me on Twitter.

Those are good! Not to diss Melissa, cuz hers is a hoot, but it isn’t really a haiku…the third stanza should only have five syllables. Signed, your friendly neighborhood haiku Nazi.

LOL. . .that’s why I said they were great “almost-haikus.”

LOL, yeah, I noticed that AFTER I posted my comment. I figured it was better to keep my mouth shut and seem a goof, rather than open it and remove all doubt ;-)

Gimme a #tbhaiku for the Golden Globes and WIN!

Tuning into to see True Blood at the Golden Globes tonight?  I hope you are because True Blood is up for Best Television Series – Drama, and Anna Paquin is up for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series – Drama.

Now, to make things a little more fun, I’d like two of my friends to walk away with prizes tonight, too!

Write me a #tbhaiku about True Blood at the Golden Globes.  For instance:

    • Anna showed her globes. / Stephen popped his fangs and bit. / I give them the gold. #tbhaiku #goldenglobes
    • WOOHOO! Anna P! / Another Golden Globe win! / Thank Steve in your speech. #tbhaiku #goldenglobes

The ground rules? All entries MUST BE TAGGED #tbhaiku #goldenglobes to win.

Extra points if your #tbhaiku makes me giggle.

If you win, I’ve got two KICKASS giftbags from the Paley Center Vampire Week-end.  Two lucky peeps will get:

    • Bottle of Tru:Blood
    • True Blood S1 on DVD
    • 2010 Dark Shadows Calendar

Entries will be accepted starting now through 12AM CST tonight.

Live coverage of the Golden Globes starts at 7pm with the red carpet interviews.  The awards, hosted by Ricky Gervais will start at 8pm.  Watch the Globes live on NBC or watch the livestream here: http://ustre.am/9Wij

International folks, you’re welcome to participate, but if you win, your prize will be sent to you C.O.D.

You’re invited: True Blood on Twitter DRACULA NIGHT!

We’re doing a very special True Blood on Twitter this Wednesday, January 13.

Why Wednesday and not Thursday night? It’s Dracula Night, and we’re celebrating the Prince of Darkness’ birthday with a True Blood on Twitter performance of Charlaine Harris’ short story, “Dracula Night.”  If you haven’t read it, I recommend that you do.  The story was first published in the anthology, Many Bloody Returns, and in A Touch of Dead, released in October 2009.

Here are the details for Wednesday night:

Hope you’ll join us, because it’ll be a bloody good time.

And, after Wednesday night, True Blood on Twitter will move back to it’s regularly scheduled time slot on Thursday nights at 9pm CST.

**The True Blood players on Twitter are fans of True Blood and Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse Mysteries. Created by fans for fans.  Endorsed by but not affiliated with HBO or True Blood.
