I’ll admit. When I first saw this, I laughed. And then I got annoyed.
First off, I think what my friends and I do is pretty damn cool. It’s cool because we’re having a lot of fun with each other and with all of the people outside of the True Blood / Sookieverse that we meet every day on Twitter. The fictional world of Bon Temps in the books may be a sleepy backwater town in rural Louisiana. On Twitter, Bon Temps is alive and full of people who come to visit out of curiousity and end up staying.
Second, we came here to have fun. Here’s a little bit about us:
- We are of varying ages ranging from our early twenties to our mid-to-late forties
- Some of us have children, some of us have children that walk on four legs (as far as I know, none of us owns a snake)
- We come from at least three countries that I know of
- Some of us have gone to college, some of us are still in school
- HBO doesn’t pay our bills — we all have dayjobs.
The majority of us (95%) do not work in advertising, marketing or social media. We didn’t come here to sell a product or conduct some crazy social experiment. We’re just fans. Fans of True Blood. Fans of the Sookie Stackhouse Mysteries. Some of us came to Twitter because it felt like a new way to role play. Others of us like to write fanfic. Either way, it still amazes me that we’re still managing to keep it fun for ourselves, and hopefully fun for everyone following us.
Which brings me to my last point. I laughed, I got annoyed, and then I was inevitably a little disheartened by the tweet. Out of professional courtesy, I won’t post the writer’s name. The writer of the tweet is a pioneer character blogger on Twitter, and someone who I actually considered a hero. Maybe the True Blood tweeters are not of the same “quality” as the Mad Men tweeters — everyone is entitled to their point of view.
And to you, dear critic, here’s what I ultimately thought of your tweet: How unprofessional.
** Hoyt Fortenberry wrote a reaction to the tweet on his blog. You can read it here.
Other than literally causing me some heartache over this Eric situation as of late (I think I have a severe overproduction of estrogen at the moment…I cried listening to showtunes earlier)–I think y’all kick some serious ass, and try not to let it get you down. Most of the bitchy things people do have more to do with the bitch themselves than the subject of their untoward behavior. All your followers can’t be wrong!

I follow all of you guys on twitter and I think you’re doing an awesome job! Keep up the good work! And remember, a lot of times someone who posts something like that is usually jealous – you guys are very popular and get more popular daily… perhaps they’re concerned over their own following? Whatever the case, it’s an untrue statement, as I, a TRUE Trubie, completely disagree.
I am wondering about HOW you keep the timeline straight… ALL OF YOU!
It’s … WOW!
